Meet Bo, who recently arrived from Ohio, along with siblings Odin, Gisa, Brenna, Alivia and Asa. The momma of these pups is a Norwegian Elkhound/Schipperke mix, & we think different dads were involved in producing these babies. Pups Asa, Alivia and Brenna have short little legs and long bodies, like a Dachshund. Pups Gisa and Bo have regular length legs; so, no doxie there. Puppy Odin is somewhere in between - not as short-legged as his doxie mix sisters, but shorter than Bo and Gisa. Currently (June 23), these pups are about 8 weeks old & weigh between 7 and 10 lbs, with Bo, Gisa and Odin being larger than the other three girls. Our best assessment is that these pups will be on the low to mid range of medium in size when full grown (~30-45 lbs). While we are not certain of their heritage, we are sure that these babies are beautiful, inside and out. They have soft medium-length coats, & the five dark-colored pups have gorgeous chocolate highlights/undertones. They are also total sweetie-pies - social, people-oriented, happy & playful - and as cute as can be when they come scampering over to you for loving. As for Bo, he is a lover - very people-oriented and outgoing. He clamors for attention by holding his arms up to be picked up and loved. He also loves romping in the yard, playing with his siblings, and being out & about exploring. While he loves playing, Bo definitely loves people attention & will want to be included in the day-to-day activities of family life. If you are looking for a great pup who will want to spend lots of time with you, Bo could be the one for you. If you have the time, willingness and ability to commit to Bo - for his whole life, no matter what may lie ahead in yours - please register on www.safeatlast.net (click Register on the left hand side of the home page). When you receive your password on your email account, please log back on to the website with your username and password to complete the online adoption application (click Forms/Applications on the left hand side of the home page). Once we have your completed application, we will email you to schedule the phone interview to commence the review process. Our process is very straightforward, but it does involve the phone interview, reference checks & a home assessment. An adoption fee of $375, and a refundable $35 spay/neuter deposit (required by NYS law), also apply. If, after you've submitted your application you have any questions, please email us at email@example.com. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CANNOT MEET THE PUPS UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR ADOPTION, & YOU CANNOT BE CONSIDERED FOR ADOPTION UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED AN ONLINE ADOPTION APPLICATION. Also, while we do allow out-of-area adoptions & welcome your interest, all approved adopters are required to come to the foster home (in this case, Fultonham, NY) to complete the adoption. We do not deliver or ship our rescue pups. Thank you for your interest in our rescue babies & for helping us save shelter pets, one life at a time. (Less)

Meet Shadow. Shadow is believed to be an approximately 3 year old Norwegian Elkhound and Akita mix. Quiet and curious, Shadow is gentle and friendly, taking treats easily from your hand and thanking you with a lick. Shadow knows how to sit and give his paw on command, and walk fairly easily on his leash. Shadow has a beautiful silver, black, grey and dark brown coat with white markings. His tail gracefully rolls over the top of his back. Shadow longs to become a loyal family pet and would love a forever home. This handsome and young dog is neutered, up-to-date on shots, and microchipped. Shadow currently weighs appx 55 LBS and will gain a little more to be at his healthy weight. Playful and friendly, Shadow gets along with children and a home without toddlers is best. If you are a savvy dog owner, who has experience with teaching basic commands, Shadow is the dog for you. He is very intelligent and can pick up very quickly your lead and signals. Certain to bring much joy to your household, Shadow is an elegant and pleasant dog that you will be proud to have walk by your side. For more information on Shadow, please contact Lisa at Rising Dove Rescue 917-214-6989 or email firstname.lastname@example.org (Less)

Norwegian Elkhound Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The Norwegian Elkhound is a prototypical Spitz-type dog. Elkhounds are loyal companions and are wonderful with children and friends of the family. Elkhounds make excellent non-vicious guard dogs. This breed is a determined hunter and an excellent working sled dog. Elkhounds are sensitive and need gentle, firm training. Elkhounds like to be outside in cooler temperatures. However, this dog can adapt to apartment life if it has enough exercise.
