Elkhounds are loyal companions and are wonderful with children and friends of the family. Elkhounds make excellent non-vicious guard dogs. This breed is a determined hunter and an excellent working sled dog. Elkhounds are sensitive and need gentle, firm training. Elkhounds like to be outside in cooler temperatures. However, this dog can adapt to apartment life if it has enough exercise.
